  • In 1983, Ph.D. from Purdue University working in plant breeding and genetics, specifically with grain sorghum
  • In 1980, M.S. degree from the Department working in crop science in the area of small grains breeding
  • In 1978, B.S. degree in Agronomy from the University of Arkansas

  • He has been in the Department since 1984.
Courses Taught
  • CSES 4103 - Plant Breeding (FA, Even years)
    Basic principles involved in plant breeding programs to improve crop plants and seed programs. Recitation 2 hours, laboratory 2 hours per week.
    Prerequisite: BOTY 3203 or ANSC 3123.
  • CSES 3342 - Cereal Grain Production (Sp, Even years) 
    An overview of the botany, production, cultural practices, soil and climatic adaptation and utilization of the major cereal grain crops. 
    Prerequisite: CSES 1203.
  • CSES 4013 - Advanced Crop Science (Sp)
    Fundamental concepts of crop physiology, crop improvement, seed science, and crop production systems. Recitation 3 hours per week.
    Prerequisite: CSES 2103
Research Emphasis
  • Conducts breeding and production research with winter wheat, oats and canola. The major emphasis is in wheat breeding. The objective is to develop improved wheat cultivars that are high yielding and disease resistant. Another major thrust has been in breeding for improved end-use quality.
