  • Ph. D. in Agronomy, specializing in Weed Science, in 1997 from the University of Arkansas
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Soil Science major, in 1983 from the Visayas State College of Agriculture, Leyte, Philippines
Professional Background
  • Started working for the University of Arkansas in September, 1998 as Assistant Professor in Weed Physiology\
  • Granted a graduate assistantship at the Department of Agronomy, University of Arkansas, by Dr. Ron Talbert for both Master's and Doctorate degrees in Weed Science
    Courses Taught
        The study of reproduction and development of weeds and the ecological factors affecting these processes; biochemical and molecular mechanisms of differential tolerance to herbicides; the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of herbicide resistance in plants; flow of herbicide-resistance genes; application of biotechnology for the development of herbicide-resistant crops; and application of molecular biology techniques for weed science research.

    Background: Born to Mr. Virgilio Pila Roma and Mrs. Dalia Oplimo Roma. Grew up in the mountains of Boljoon, Cebu, Philippines in a farming community where the average farm size is 2 ha. Finished elementary education from Lunop, Elementary School and secondary education from Boljoon Barangay High School.

    Married to Redentor Burgos, also from Cebu, Philippines.  Blessed with one son, Ronelo Burgos.
