University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service
Assistant Extension Professor - Cotton Agronomist 100% -CES appointment.
Current responsibilities are to provide educational programs in cotton production and
agronomic systems that improve yield and profitability. Educational programs focus on new technologies, cotton variety selection, in-season crop management, irrigation and defoliation. Conduct 10 online and in-person training sessions per year to agents for professional development. I am editor of the Arkansas Cotton Update newsletter that is sent out weekly during the growing season. I currently serve as supervisor of the Arkansas Cotton Verification Program and Standardized Cotton Variety Trials. I Conduct applied research in regards to cotton variety performance and management, seeding rates, row spacing, planting dates, growth regulators, irrigation and defoliation. In the last 5 years I have conducted over 350 producer meetings reaching over 2000 producers/year, 50 radio shows, 8 TV programs, 100 newsletters and contributed to over 125 articles in popular press venues such as Delta Farm Press, Cotton Grower , Mid America Grower, and Cotton Farming Magazine.
July 2004- April 2007 Mississippi State University- 100% MSU-ES
Assistant Extension Professor - Cotton Specialist
Responsible for cotton agronomic education and programming throughout the state of Mississippi. Coordinated with extension County Directors as well as extension Area Agronomic Agents in Mississippi to conduct outreach programs in Cotton production. Program focus was to supply consultants, growers, or field men with the adequate number of Certified Crop Advisor credits as well as Consultant credits. During this time I continued the success of the Cotton Short Course held on campus where approximately 200 clientele attend each year. Conducted various on and off farm demonstration trials with new varieties, chemicals or other agronomic practices that focus on improvement of on-farm efficiency and cotton yields. For three and a half years I was able to fully fund my extension program through external funding from industry related research.
October 2002- July 2004
Mississippi State University
Research Associate I Ph.D.
Responsibilities included planning, developing, and managing approximately 170 acres of, remote sensing and site-specific precision agriculture and weed control field and plot research in corn and cotton. Supervised approximately 10 graduate students and student workers in their projects. Obtained best management practices and decision-making skills in variety selection, nutrient recommendations, as well as herbicide, insecticide and fungicide timings and applications. Coordinated with numerous industry representatives and Cotton Incorporated personnel for initiating and funding new and significant cotton research projects, and presenting the results in scientific and grower oriented meetings.
